CURRENTLY READING - FRESH PRINTS.

As I mentioned back in January one of the things I wanted to do more of was read. So far I've read Among The Wicked,  Linda CastilloScrappy Little Nobody,  Anna Kendrick and In The Company of Women, Grace Bonney. Not a huge list but not far off what I ended up reading in the whole of last year so I feel like I'm on a roll.

I picked up Fresh Prints by Christine Leech a couple of weeks ago but only really managed to take a proper look at it this week. It's all about block printing using found objects and what Christine calls 'lazy lino prints.' This is a great introduction into printing, full of fantastic ideas and tips to get you started. There's a section at the beginning about mixing colours and how to get the correct consistency with your ink and tools of the trade as well as all the templates you'll need to recreate the projects for yourself.  I loved them all so it was hard to choose but I snapped a few of my favourite below.

I loved, loved, loved these circus letter wooden postcards...

and this mushroom stamped cushion using the 'lasy lino' technique...

but I especially loved these bleach stamped beach towels. Who knew you get such a cool effect with cookie cookies and some household bleach.

The books a couple of years old now but you can still pick up copies on Amazon and Ebay. Check it out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

P.S. If you liked the look of this book you might want to check out my post on how to carve a custom stamp.
