DIY Decoupage Candles.

Today we’re making DIY Decoupage Candles with paper napkins. If you're new to decoupage or just looking for a fun and easy craft to try, you're going to love this one.

This is one of those projects that I’ve been wanting to try for ages but I’d never found the right napkins. It wasn't until a few weeks ago that I finally found these gorgeous pink floral napkins and I knew they'd be perfect for it.

Anything that's pink and floral will always be a winner in my books.

I’ve seen a few different techniques for making these candles. This one uses a metal spoon that’s heated using a tea light.

I’ve also made some decoupage candles using a heat gun. You can read all about how I did that here.

This project is not only quick and easy to make, but it also makes fantastic gifts or pretty home decor.

Picture your handmade candles as a centrepiece on your dinner table, or how about gifting them to friends and family during the holidays?

Grab your supplies, and let's get creative!

Supplies:

  • Plain Pillar Candles to decorate

  • Pretty patterned napkins

  • A metal spoon

  • And tea light for heating the spoon over.

1. Once you've selected the perfect napkin design, carefully cut out the elements you want to use.

2. Peel apart all the layers.

For this technique, you'll want the top layer of the napkin with the design printed on it.

3. Carefully position your napkin design on the candle and start heating the spoon over the tea light (be careful, it's going to get hot).

Top Tip: Heat the spoon upside down (the opposite way to the picture above) that way if the spoon becomes blackened from the flame it won't rub off onto your candle.

4. Rub the spoon over your chosen design until you start to see the wax melting through the napkin.

Gently press it down, starting from the centre and working your way out to the edges to avoid wrinkles and air bubbles.

Try not to apply too much pressure as you can easily melt the candle and leave it looking uneven.

5. Keep reheating the spoon and repeat until the design is fully covered.

6. Add more pieces until you're happy with the overall design before leaving to cool.
