Best Paper Cutters for Crafters.

When it comes to crafts, having the right tools can make all the difference.  One of the most important tools for any crafter is a good paper cutter.

As someone who has made a lot of paper crafts over the years, I know just how important having a reliable paper cutter is. It can make all the difference in achieving clean, precise cuts quickly and efficiently.

In this blog post, I thought it might be useful to share with you some of the best paper cutters for crafters that I've personally used and loved.

I hope this list helps you find the perfect types of paper cutters for your crafting projects.

Best Paper Cutters for Craft Projects.

A good-quality paper cutter should be able to handle a variety of materials including paper, cardstock, scrapbooking paper, vellum and in the case of a rotary cutter even fabric. It should be easy to use and make clean, sharp and accurate cuts.

Depending on the project you may need a guillotine paper cutter, a paper trimmer, a rotary paper trimmer or a simple craft knife and ruler. It all depends on the type of material you're cutting and how much you need to cut.

For larger projects, such as cutting hundreds of wedding invitations, a guillotine is an excellent choice. With its flat base and cutting arm, a guillotine can slice through multiple sheets at once.

For smaller projects like individual cards or a scrapbooking page layout, a paper trimmer may be all you need.

Top Paper Cutters for Crafters.

1. Fiskars SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer.

The Fiskars SureCut Deluxe Craft Paper Trimmer is my go-to paper cutter for all my crafting projects. It can be used to trim paper, photos, mats, and borders.

It has a 12-inch cutting length, which is perfect for most crafting projects. A wire cut-line guide that ensures straight, precision cuts every time and can cut up to 10 sheets of paper at once.

The swing-out arm can extend up to 15 1/4 inches, making it perfect for larger projects and 12x12-inch scrapbook paper. I love that the self-levelling arm keeps my paper in place while cutting, reducing the chances of uneven cuts or slips.

You do need to replace the blades every so often to keep your cuts crisp so it's not the cheapest paper trimmer but I do think it's worth it. This paper cutter is truly a game-changer for any crafter looking for a reliable tool that will help them achieve professional-looking results.

2. Swingline ClassicCut Lite Guillotine Trimmer or Swingline Guillotine Paper Cutter Heavy-Duty.

If you're on a budget, both the Swingline ClassicCut Lite Guillotine Trimmer and the Swingline Guillotine Paper Cutter Heavy-Duty Paper Cutter (perfect for thicker materials) are great options that offer excellent value for their price. A guillotine cutter is easy to use, with a sharp guillotine blade for making a crisp, clean cut and a handy grid for lining up your paper.

Their 12-inch cutting length is perfect for most crafting projects, and the sturdy plastic base ensures stability during cutting. They also feature a safety guard that keeps fingers safely away from the blade and a blade latch hook to securely lock the trimmer arms when not in use.

3. Fiskars Crafts Rotary Cutter.

A handheld rotary cutter or rotary trimmer is a cutting tool that uses a circular blade and cuts just like a pizza cutter. You can use them like a craft knife with a ruler to cut long, fluid, straight lines or use them to cut freehand shapes.

While it may not be as suitable for intricate pieces as a craft knife it can still be a useful tool. The durable, sharp blade can cut through various materials like thin card, leather, foam, batting and fabrics.

Once you get the hang of using it to cut curves, you'll find it to be a valuable addition to your crafting toolkit. It's a great option for crafters who make all different kinds of crafts as you can use it across all your projects.

4. Craft Knife/Hobby Knife.

A craft knife, also known as a hobby knife or X-Acto knife, is a versatile tool that can be used to create intricate designs and precise cuts. Its razor-sharp cutting blade can be easily replaced and can cut through paper, cardstock, and other materials, making it one of my favourite tools for paper crafting.

It's hard to go wrong with a craft knife but there are a couple I've used again and again over the years and they've never let me down. The We R Memory Keepers Craft Knife and the We R Makers - Comfort Craft Tools Collection - Craft Knife.

And don't forget to invest in a cutting mat. I've had one of these large A3 sizes (12x12 inches) for years and I love it! And if green isn't your thing, this pink and purple set is cute too!

5. Scissors.

Everyone needs a great pair of scissors and these Fiskars Softgrip Stainless Steel Scissors are just that. I've had my pair for nearly fifteen years and they're still going strong. I've used them to cut through a number of different materials like paper, card stock, fabric, tape and even sandpaper.

For any precision cutting, I like to use Fiskars Curved Craft Scissors. They're perfect for making smaller intricate cuts as you can easily manoeuvre them around more detailed pieces like in Decoupage.

If you're going to be cutting a lot of adhesives or glue I recommend paying a bit more and going for some non-stick scissors. These 8" Kai Scissors and these 5" Kai Scissors from Felt Paper Scissors are a good option and even though I haven't used them myself I have had them recommended to me by quite a few people.
