Origami Heart With Wings.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and I’m back with the final of my three easy origami hearts tutorials. What better way to say ‘I love you’ than with a pretty origami heart with wings.

I’ve always loved origami. It’s so satisfying to be able to make something out of a simple piece of folded paper. I particularly like simple origami projects that you can make quickly and easily. All of the hearts I’ve made in the last couple of weeks fall into this ‘easy’ category but I do think this is the hardest of the three so I’ve left it for last.

But don’t let it fool you, this cute paper heart is easier to make than it looks. At first glance, you might think it’s made using a separate piece of paper for the wings and heart but it’s actually made using a single sheet of double-sided paper.

As you fold your heart the underside of the paper is revealed to form the wings. I used red and yellow for mine but pink and reds would look fantastic, don’t you think?

If you missed them, don’t forget to head on over to my Valentine’s Day Origami page for my easy origami hearts and my origami heart bookmarks as well as the rest of my love-themed origami.

Time to impress your loved ones, friends and family and get folding.

Double-sided Origami Paper (contrasting colours)

This is normally the part where I tell you there are lots of alternatives to traditional origami paper (gift wrap or brown kraft paper) and while I do think these would work well, you really do want paper with a contrasting colour or pattern on the other side for it to be truly effective.

If you can’t get hold of any double-sided origami paper old magazines or pages out of a completed colouring book would look good.

How to make a flying origami heart with wings.

1. Take your origami paper and place it colour side down (in this case red) and fold it in half and half again. Open it out and lay flat.

2. Fold the top and bottom edges into the centre.

3. Flip it over.

4. Fold the bottom corners to the centre crease to form a triangle. Make sure to leave the bottom flap (yellow) behind.

5. Do the same for the right and side.

6. Flip it over.

I'm showing it upside down as well in the picture so you can hopefully see what's going on a little bit better.

7. You're going to fold the red strip in half. As you do this it should open up and reveal the back of your paper (yellow) and two flaps.

8. As you open it press down these flaps to form a squash fold and two triangles. You should now have a strip (yellow) running across the back of your heart with two triangles (red) in the middle of it

9. Next, fold in the edges of your strip to make the corners of your wings.

10. Finally, fold small triangles in the top to form the heart shape.

11. Flip it over and you're done. You should now have a sweet origami heart with wings.
