Cute Origami Santa.

I love simple paper crafts that can be made by the whole family and this happy little Santa is no exception. We've already made these a couple of times and I'm sure we'll make them again before the Christmas season is over.

Trust me, making these Santas is so much fun. They're simple enough for kids to make but also fun for the grown-ups as well. For any little ones that struggle with the folding, they can always go to town drawing on the cute faces and maybe adding a googly eye or two.

And there are so many different ways these little cuties can be used. They make sweet Christmas tree decorations. Imagine a Christmas tree filled with a whole collection of these mini Santas.

Or a bunch of gifts all topped with one of these paper Santas instead of a traditional gift tag. You can also use them to create personalised greeting cards, festive garlands, or even as table centrepieces.

Supplies:

  • Origami Craft Paper - Use different colours and sizes to create an entire Santa family.

  • Bone Folder (optional)

Although I recommend using origami paper (you can even get a cute festive version) for any paper-folding project, here are a few alternatives that you probably already have on hand.

  • Regular Printer Paper,

  • Gift Wrap/Wrapping Paper

  • Magazines,

  • Maps,

  • Colouring Book Pages,

  • Old Books,

  • And Newspapers.

How To Make Your Own Origami Santa.

1. Take a sheet of square paper and lay it down pattern side facing up.

2. Fold the bottom edge up around 1/2 cm. This white part will make the cuffs or hands of your Santa.

3. Fold your paper in half so the pattern is on the inside and the white side is on the outside.

4. Open back out.

5. Take the top left corner and fold it in to meet the centre crease.

6. Fold the right top corner into the middle.

7. Repeat and fold the left side into the middle again.

8. Do the same on the right side to make a narrower triangle shape.

9. Flip the paper over.

10. Lift the bottom edge up and fold in half towards you. You should now have a white triangle in the middle and an arm on each side.

11. Flip your paper Santa over.

12. Fold the left arm in on a diagonal crease using the side of the triangle as a guide.

13. Fold it back out at an angle to make a small concertina fold.

14. Repeat on the other side.

15. Flip it over.

16. Draw on your cute Santa face or add your own extra details like googly eyes or maybe a mini sack or candy cane.
