AROUND HERE.

A sunny yellow flower to brighten up a dull day.

Water. Lots and lot of water. Giving up caffeine is hard.

Two of my favourite things. Gorgeous lights from Cable & Cotton, a housewarming present from a lovely friend and cushion covers from the Ikea Brakig collection, first seen on Bright Bazaar back in january and I'd been dreaming of them ever since.

Currently reading The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer.

Eating poached egg sandwiches for lunch.

And finally, loving having fresh flowers in the house.

5 OF MY FAVOURITE DIY HOME DECOR IDEAS.

5 OF MY FAVOURITE DIY HOME DECOR IDEAS.

Since moving house I definitely have home decor on the brain. There's something so inspiring about painting everything white and starting afresh.

Here are 5 of my favourite DIY home decor ideas I couldn't stop thinking about last week.

1. Check out this DIY washi tape stool from Fellow Fellow. I've had my eye on that Ikea stool for a while now and I love the idea of using it as a side table, the fact that it's turquoise doesn't hurt either.

2. These DIY landscape pillows from Poppytalk are fantastic. I've already got plans to make cushion covers using some vintage fabric I've been saving so for now I'm filing this idea away for future use. I'm pretty sure you can never have too many cushions anyway, right?

3. I love these blueprint copies of family photos from A Beautiful Mess. Frame and hang them as they are or use them to fill in the gaps in your bookshelves.

4. It's no secret I love neon, especially pink neon so how could I not fall in love with these DIY triangle and neon photo frames from Love From Ginger.

5. And finally hop on over to Almost Makes Perfect for these gorgeous gold-trimmed DIY constellation coasters. They'd add a bit of sparkle to any occasion.

Make Valentine’s Day extra sweet with these diy sugar cube hearts. This is an amazingly simple recipe that only needs a couple of ingredients to make your own pretty heart-shaped sugar cubes.

DIY Sugar Cube Hearts.

I’m back and excited to share this sweet Valentine's treat with you all. DIY Sugar Cube in the shape of hearts.

This is a really quick and simple project but it's also just a little bit tricky. I had two failed attempts, too much water, not enough and the fact that I am not a patient person.

In my case, it was definitely third time lucky. So don't be put off if it doesn't go right the first time, sometimes even simple projects need a little practice.

These pretty pink sugar hearts would make the perfect gift for not only Valentine's Day but a bridal shower or even a wedding.

You could tint the sugar any colour that takes your fancy and change the shape easily using a different mould. I think these flower-shaped moulds are particularly lovely, don’t you?

Supplies:

  • Granulated Sugar

  • Water

  • Food Colouring

  • Heart Shaped Candy/Chocolate Mould (I got mine from the local craft store but I’ve linked similar here),

  • And a bowl and spoon to mix it in.

How to make Homemade Sugar Cubes.

1. Take the bowl of sugar and add the water a tablespoon at a time until a soft, grainy texture is achieved. It should clump together and look similar to wet sand.

Try not to add too much water as it will dissolve the sugar and your sugar hearts won't form properly. Not enough and sugar won't be able to stick together.

2. Add a couple of drops of food colouring and mix well to distribute the colour evenly throughout the mixture. If you want a darker colour add more food colouring a few drops at a time.

Remember a little food colouring goes a long way so it's better to start off by adding a little and building up rather than trying to mix in more sugar later.

3. Take your candy mould and start pressing the sugar firmly into it. Make sure you pack the sugar in as tightly as you can to get rid of any gaps or air bubbles.

4. Level the back of your sugar cubes using  a knife or the back of a spoon and brush away any excess sugar.

5. For best results leave to harden at room temperature overnight.

I've seen similar tutorials suggest popping your candy moulds in the microwave or oven (if your mould says it's microwave/oven safe that is) to help speed up the drying process but I found the best way was to try and be patient and simply let them dry naturally.

6. When the sugar is completely hard place a tray over the top of your mould, hold tight onto both and flip over.

Your sugar hearts should pop straight out onto the tray.

Remember you can always give the mould a gentle tap to remove any stubborn cubes.

And there they are, sweet and simple DIY sugar cube hearts. Use them at fancy tea parties, as wedding favours, as table decorations at baby showers

And don't forget if tea isn't your thing you can always try making a few of these delicious looking champagne cocktails.

LONG TIME NO BLOG.

Tea, toast and catching up on some blog reading.

Hi everyone. I'm sorry it's been so quiet around here. I'm in the middle of moving house. Turns out it's quite hard to blog when everything you own is packed away in boxes and you have limited access to the internet. I know, who knew!

I'm hoping to get back on track later this week but in the meantime I thought I should let you know about the other ways you can follow this blog so you don't miss out when I finally do update it.

First up is email, subscribe in the grey box on the right hand side and you can get hassle free blog updates sent straight to your inbox. If, like me, you want to keep all your favourite blogs together in one place you can follow along using a blog reader like Bloglovin' or Feedly. I don't know much about Bloglovin' but can highly recommend Feedly to anyone looking for a new way to read and find new blogs. If you're a Pinterest fan you can find me pinning over here most days, I have nearly 4000 pins, I really do love it. And finally there's Instagram, I have to admit I haven't been very good at updating this lately but I'm hoping to change all that this year. After all, it seems like such a waste to keep taking all these photos and never actually sharing them with anyone doesn't it.

I'm off to sort through more boxes now, I hope you've all had a productive start to your week.
