Printable Envelope Template.
I'm a big fan of snail mail. Sending something through the post is a lovely way to keep in touch with friends and family.
Lately, I’ve been looking for a way to jazz up my mail and help them stand out from the crowd. A handwritten letter or homemade card deserves better than a boring white envelope.
I decided to make some pretty patterned envelopes and thought I’d share them here as well, a little gift from me to you (make sure to check out the rest of our free printable templates here).
There are some cute watercolour polka dots, watercolour splashes, sprinkles and not forgetting a blank template you can use with any patterned paper that you like.
Print them on whatever card or paper suits your theme, mood or even season. Bright and cheery for spring or summer. Icy blues and greys for winter. Rainbow-themed for a birthday or brown kraft cardstock for a rustic wedding.
DIY Envelope Template.
I’m in love with the pretty inky watercolour patterns on today’s freebie. They’re the perfect contrast to the candy-coloured card they’re printed on.
It's actually pretty easy to make your own envelopes and even easier with this free download. Once you've made one, you'll be able to whip up a batch in no time.
You can print the patterned template onto plain card stock or the blank envelope template onto some patterned scrapbook paper for a personalised envelope to match homemade cards or invitations.
The patterned ones have a space on the front of each envelope for you to write the recipient’s address. The blank envelopes are perfect for use as a printable mail art template.
You can even make your own envelopes out of wallpaper, old colouring book pages, magazines or gift wrap. Print out the template onto some thick white cardstock, cut it out and use it as a template to trace the shape onto the back of your chosen paper.
Grab the free templates below so you can print your own cute patterned envelopes. Making your own envelopes is a great alternative to going out and buying plain white envelopes from the store. It's as easy as print, cut, score and fold.
BEFORE YOU START, LET ME SHARE A FEW TIPS.
These envelopes measure 4.5 inches x 6.4 inches (11.4 cm x 16.2 cm). They’re a standard C6 size envelope This means they’ll hold a piece of A4 paper folded in half twice or an A5 folded in half once.
Score along the lines using a steel ruler and either an embossing tool or a bone folder to get a clean, crisp folded edge.
If you don’t have an embossing tool or a bone folder a butter knife or an old ballpoint pen make great alternatives. Just make sure the ballpoint is out of ink before you go drawing all over your adorable new envelopes.
Use a glue stick or double-sided tape to stick down the side tabs. A runny glue like Elmer’s school glue can make a lightweight cardstock warp and buckle.
Here are some of my favourite adhesives when working with paper:
Tombow Tape Runner - simply roll it onto your paper or card and the tape comes out in a smooth line.
Double Sided-Tape - my personal favourite. Keep in mind there are no second chances with double-sided tape. Once it’s stuck, it’s stuck. I like to use this super skinny 1/4" tape on nearly all of my papercraft projects.
And finally, the crafting classic, the Glue Stick - quick, easy to use and won’t overload your paper leaving it buckled and messy.

How to make a DIY Envelope using a template.
The first thing you need to do is download the FREE printable envelope template at the end of this post.
Print out the PDF onto your chosen paper or cardstock.
Cut along the solid black lines using a pair of scissors.
Score along the dotted lines using an embossing tool or bone folder and a ruler.
Fold along the scorelines and run a bone folder or butter knife along each crease to make a sharp, crisp fold.
Run some glue or adhesive onto the side tabs.
Lift the bottom flap up and press down onto the tabs. Leave the top flap open.
Slide in your note or card.
Bring down the top flap and seal using more glue or some cute washi tape or stickers.
Stick on a stamp and pop in the post.
