Summer is the season of sunshine, sandy toes and seashells. And what better way to bring the beach home than with some adorable origami shells?

These little cuties are super simple to fold, make the sweetest decorations, and give off total beachy-boho vibes.

You can make them in any colour or pattern you like. Try pastel pinks, ocean blues or even tropical prints.

They make charming decorations or even party favours for a seaside-themed gathering.

Ways to Use Your Origami Shells.

  • Summer Garlands: String several shells together and hang them across a wall or doorway.

  • Gift Toppers: Use them to decorate wrapped presents for a personal, beachy touch.

  • Table Decor: Scatter them on tables for a summer picnic or kids’ mermaid party.

1. Take a square of origami paper and fold it in half horizontally with the white side of the paper on the inside.

2. Fold the bottom corners in to meet the centre crease to make 2 triangles.

3. Fold the triangles back on themselves (not all the way) to make 2 smaller triangles.

4. Fold the bottom point up.

5. Next, fold the outside edge of the right-hand side in to meet the centre crease.

6. Take that same edge of fold it in half and back on itself.

7. Repeat on the other side.

8. Flip your folded paper over.

9. Now you need to fold the outer edge of one side to meet the centre crease.

10. Repeat on the other side.

11. You should now have an accordion-folded piece of paper.

12. Gently pull your folded paper apart so the white side is facing up. You may need to go over some of the accordion folds to shape it.

13. Fold the the top 2 corners in to make the final shell shape.

14. Flip your folded paper over to reveal the finished shell.

I made a ton of these last summer when I was prepping for a beach-themed baby shower and I haven’t stopped since.

You can make them tiny and delicate in pastels or big, bold and bright like I did. They look amazing in any colour.
