DIY Air Dry Clay Rose Trinket Dish

There's something so satisfying about carving a rose out of clay, watching those swirling petal lines take shape really is one of my favourite parts of this whole project!
This dish has quickly become one of my go-to handmade gift ideas, perfect for Valentine’s Day and it's just as lovely to keep for yourself.
As always, this is such a beginner-friendly project. All you need is some air dry clay, the free template, and a few basic tools you probably already have at home from making these other air dry clay crafts!

Supplies:
Rose Template (sign up below to get the free template)
Small Glass Bowls
Fine Sandpaper
Acrylic Paint (pink and green)
Small Cup of Water
Paper Towels
Acetone/Nail Varnish Remover
How To Make A Clay Rose Trinket Dish.
1. Knead your clay until soft and pliable, then roll it out to an even thickness of around 5 mm using a rolling pin.
2. Place your rose template on top and trace carefully around the outline with a clay tool.
3. Remove the excess clay.
4. Use a clay tool to trace the shape of the rose and leaves onto the clay.
5. Go over the traced lines with a clay tool.
6. Use your fingers and a little water to smooth the edges.
7. You may need to go over the lines again after smoothing with water.
8. Transfer your clay into a small bowl to give it a curved shape as it dries.
9. Leave to dry for 24 hours before gently sliding out of the bowl and placing it upside down on the outside of the bowl, and leaving to dry for another 24 hours.
Depending on your clay's thickness and the humidity in your space, it can take longer to dry.

10. Once fully dry, lightly sand any rough edges.
11. Prime your clay strawberry by painting it with 2 coats of white gesso. Leave 2 hours between coats and allow 24 hours to dry.
12. Paint the whole piece with pink and green acrylic paint, making sure to work it into the grooves. Two coats usually give the best coverage.
13. Once dry, add a darker pink and green to the grooves that make the petals and leaves. This will add an extra dimension to your finished rose.
