Origami Tulips With Stem.

It's been a while since we've made an origami flower. A lot of you loved my simple origami tulip so I thought this time we'd make a 3D tulip instead.

This paper tulip is such a fun project and much easier to make than it looks making them a fun activity for all ages. They would make a fantastic birthday or Mother's Day gift.

You can use them to decorate a flower pot, pop them in a vase on a coffee table, make a bouquet to give as a gift or use the flower heads to make a garland. Perfect for summer celebrations or as spring home decor.

Easy Origami Tulips.

Let's face it – fresh flowers can be pricey, and they don't last forever. But with origami tulips, you can enjoy these pretty flowers without breaking the bank.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to make a 3D paper tulip that you can attach to a straw or wooden dowel. This model is quite easy to make although a little bit trickier than the flat origami tulips I made last time.

All you need is a stack of origami paper and a handful of paper straws, both of which are affordable and easy to find at any craft store. Plus, once you've made your tulips, they'll stay vibrant and look beautiful all year long.

Supplies:

How to make An Origami Tulip Flower.

1. Take a square piece of paper and fold it in half to make a rectangle.

2. Open it back out and fold it in half again this time in the opposite direction.

3. Open back out. Your paper should now be divided up into quarters (four squares).

4. Fold in half again but this time along the diagonal to make a triangle.

5. Take a pair of scissors and make a small cut (2-3mm) from the bottom middle crease.

6. Open your square of paper back out and fold along the opposite diagonal.

7. Repeat and make another small cut up from the bottom along the middle crease.

8. Open back out. You should now have a small ‘X’ cut into the middle of your origami paper.

When finished this will make the small hole for the straw stem to go in.

9. Bring all the four corners into the middle and crease.

10. Fold in half along the diagonal to make a triangle.

11. Take the right side and open it out to make a pocket.

12. Open the right side all the way and bring the bottom right corner up to meet the top point.

Press flat to make a diamond.

13. Flip it over and repeat on the other side.

14. You should now have a diamond shape.

15. Fold the right-hand side point into the centre.

16. Repeat and fold the left side point into the middle as well.

17. Flip it over and repeat folding both points into the centre again.

18. This is the tricky part. You need to make thin folds (around 2mm) along the bottom sides by folding them in.

19. Flip it over and repeat on the other side.

20. Take your origami and carefully open it from the top to form your tulip head.

21. Curl the petals outwards around a pencil to shape them.

22. Insert your straw stem. I used stripey straws but you could use green paper straws.

I found it worked best to insert the straw through the top of the flower head to give it a neater finish.

Optional extra: Apply a small dap of glue to secure your tulip head to the stem.

And there you have it, folks – your very own bouquet of origami tulips with paper straw stems! I hope you had as much fun making these as I did.
